On Writing

I came to writing the same way I came to acting: through an obsession with how people tell stories about themselves. The stage taught me that truth lives in the gap between what a character says and what they mean. The page taught me that the same gap exists in every sentence.

My writing moves between political essay, personal narrative, and fiction. The common thread is the American West — its landscapes, its contradictions, its particular way of being in the world.
